Unfortunately, just like fashion, history always repeats or tries to. There is no denying what is going on today has many similar traits to fascism, but it's not here and I doubt will ever be in the future. Could be trying? Maybe, but will never happen in the United States just because of our voting system, the implications and our role in the world as a leader and to our allies. A common factor is that the people of those countries were tired, broke, and their citizens had nothing to lose, they lost everything and starving, literally. They were needing a better life and were given that until the power got out of control shamelessly and unchecked. The United States has checks and balances and people are educated with computers, past and present, and have ways and means to make more informed decisions and decide for themself by voting in elections. That is why we are divided now. Even if a fascist were voted in as president, everything still needs to be voted, the power isn't solely his to exploit. Was it bad for those countries initially? No, but they were destitute and only moved up, people were happy and started working again and gaining wealth back. We are far from destitute.
Always enjoy Rick Steves and a good history lesson about Europe and what happened. Will it happen here? No, it can't, but we can be a wreck as a country, divided between parties until someone steps up that both sides can work with and aim for the good of everyone AND gets things done on a budget and be a top world leader once again and be an example. |
