In the neighborhood I moved to, we have on occasions have feral chickens running around. Some I believe are from people who raise them and not really cooping them, and some wild. Yesterday I noticed a cute little gray pair of them across the street (a rooster and a hen) and convinced them I am friendly and fed them a little bit of bread. These are new ones I have never seen before. The end goal to bring them to my yard, I'd LOVE it, and would look out for them the best I can. Anyway, They followed me to the driveway and the idiot dog across the street came out, running out of control and almost had the rooster as chicken dinner! I was devasted they trusted me, came close to me, and then this. Luckily he escaped over the fence and his mate found him. Whew. Made me so upset and devasted...later I seen them minding their own business like nothing happened. Today, I see them back, this time I walked over to them, They recognized and greeted me but they need to stay in the bushes and such after yesterday's incident. Now, as soon as they came out 2 huge predators chicken hawks (I believe) flew into the tree above them. OMG! Now what? I put the bread back under the shrubs tight and hoped they stayed there. Who knew chickens had such a tough life, but I guess they are pretty defenseless in the scheme of things. It's like country living not in the country. |
