Funny story.
I wonder if it's a combination of tropical sun and hurricane winds that blow them around. They wander around less populated beaches in Hawaii too.
We have more of a chick-a-dee thing going on with 15-20 hummingbirds that live in our backyard. We started out with one feeder in Spring and ended up with 4 feeders hanging about 8 ft high off the ground all in a row and protected from cats. The problem is they go through 3 feeders a day and we go through a lot of sugar! Sometimes they look like flies when they all show up.
When we got blasted by that pineapple express, they all hung out in the wind and rain and ate all day. They are used to us and their feeding time. The other day my wife was able to reach over and run her hand across the tail of one. The bird looked at her for a few seconds then took off.

They are getting us tired tho so we may start pulling a couple of feeders away.
