Re: Why dogs dig holes?

It's in their DNA.
We have a Lhasa Apso.
We give her a treat as a reward for whatever, and not only does she dig an imaginary hole in the carpet, and drops the treat in the hole, she uses her muzzle to push the imaginary dirt back into the hole to cover up the treat.
She is convinced that we want that milk bone back.
