My eyes became very itchy and watered a lot during and after all the fires. One of the biggest fires was in 2016, The Alamo Fire, about 5 miles from me. I developed asthma, and I began to have allergies...ended up in the ER because I couldn't sleep at night due to wheezing. I think I've been having a reaction to smoke and ambient particles during the last two years of fire storm events.
But recently I began to notice my sight was getting worse in my right eye. It's been a very stressful year, our home in Carpinteria burned to the ground on December 10, 2017 at 1am in The Thomas Fire, and with the resultant losses of lives and property in our area, loss of business, it's just not been very much fun.
I'll get through it. Looking forward to the surgery to regain a majority of my sight, as I do love to read. After the retina tear is repaired, I'll have the cataract surgeries next year. I'm told by my surgeon that the colors will be even more vivid after all these procedures. Can't wait. I'll have a little down time on December 7. That should drive me completely nuts, not being able to move around and staying in the dark, resting. |
