"After the retina tear is repaired, I'll have the cataract surgeries next year. I'm told by my surgeon that the colors will be even more vivid after all these procedures. "
One of the first things I noticed after cataract surgery was the vividness of the colors around me - it's startling at first. The only downside to the surgery was that I developed a sensitivity to light, so I almost always wear sunglasses when I'm outdoors, even if it's cloudy. When I had the surgery, they were still doing it as microsurgery; now it's done with lasers.
The secondary cataract I seem to have developed is fairly common. It's not really a cataract since they don't regrow (the lens is replaced with an implant, so there's no organic material to grow on); it actually has to do with the area of the eye that surrounds and supports the lens. The fix doesn't require surgery and is an office procedure - the doc just zaps that area with a laser, and it's resolved permanently.
