I also almost always use a credit card for purchases, partly for that reason, as well as for the other protections they provide. The biggest reason, though, may be the points or cash back I get, depending on the card. That stuff can really add up!
To keep it simple, I use different cards for different types of purchases. For example, I use one card for all notary business expenses, another card for other business expenses, and yet another one for personal purchases. Those are all Visa cards, but I also keep an Amex card, just in case, although it's been ages since I've run into any issues with either card not being accepted. To keep the Amex active, I have a utility bill set up for automatic payment to that card. Points for that card keep piling up. (Years back, I cashed in a chunk of them on a nice Kitchen Aid food processor... )
This system makes it easier for me to track expenses in different categories. It may also help my credit rating, as these are all cards I've had for decades, plus I pay each in full, on time, every month (unless I screw up... ) At my stage of life, my priority is to remain debt free (still working on the mortgage, though), but I also figure it's a good idea to have plenty of credit available, in case of emergency. Just FWIW.
