I've been using Google Maps for so long, I'm not sure if I'd still know how to turn on my GPS anymore. However, I found myself thinking about doing just that last week. Google maps on my phone suddenly started going schizo on my. I was on a local road and knew I had about 4 miles to go before the next turn, but suddenly, it started trying to get me to take all kinds of turns, including u-turns and turns on streets we weren't even close to, one after another, almost always different. It was bizarre! Fortunately, it periodically included the right turns.
Something similar happened to me a couple of times before. I decided to turn my phone off and restart (which I probably don't do often enough), and it seems to have fixed the issue. Reminded me, though, how dependent I've become on all these devices!
I should probably add that for me, Google Maps is usually very close in it's ETA estimations, unless circumstances have suddenly changed. It's also helped me escape a major slowdown/road blockage a couple of times. But after reading that article, I think I'm going to see it a bit differently in future.
