my Christmas Eve menu. Are there other foodies out-there working on menus, or any other fun Holiday traditions or ideas that you’d like to share? Any little touches that you do to enjoy yourself or things that you enjoy doing for others?
For Christmas Eve, we typically have seafood - it’s a light course maybe with cocktails and a little fancy. For Christmas Day, we have multiple courses with lots of grilled veggies, lasagna, salads, sides.
To keep things varied and festive, I’m thinking of making an omakase Christmas Eve dinner (I got the idea from Katana’s website, http://www.yelp.com/biz/katana-west-hollywood). It’s defined as “a traditional Japanese dining style in which the chef provides a meal tailored to your preferences based on availability, budget, taste, and seasonality. A comparable concept in Western cuisine would be the ‘tasting menu,’ but omakase so much more than that.”
So...it might be dungeness crab, salmon, oysters, unagi... (don’t know yet). I have a connection with a fisherman that I did a few signings for (super nice guy, young family man) and he gives me great deals on fresh-off-the-boat fish. So, we’ll see what’s in-season and what the pricing is. Not sure about the recipes yet. It’s fun to get geared-up for it. I really don’t drink alcohol (wine sometimes), but I’m thinking of making ginger-infused vodka cocktails. I love ginger! I think I should start infusing this week! :-)
Here are some of the salad dressing recipes (and other stuff) I’m looking at... just for fun.
