get background information on companies/individuals.

You don't have to be a licensed, registered Private Investigator to discover information about companies and individuals who own them. Using these resources, we can make better decisions about who to work/not work for. Certainly has saved my bacon many times. It doesn't take that much time, and a whole lot less time than having to chase your money that might never come for all your hard work.

Or not...notaries, desperate for work, can keep on working for companies they don't know a thing about, throw caution to the wind and work for deadbeats or folks with criminal histories. It's hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that in some states people convicted of felonies can become notaries.
