I've done that many times myself, as well. I think the thing to watch out for, though, is what is meant by"lender". If that means "loan officer", I'd be very careful. I've run into LOs who were very eager to get the loan closed and get their commission and didn't even understand that the docs needed to go back to escrow/title. Scary...

If I have documentation that it's OK to leave docs with the borrowers (like in the example given above), I'm more than happy to save myself the trip to FedEx! Without documentation, just imagine the conversation if something gets messed up with the docs or they go missing...
