I was contacted by "Aaron" from California on 9/12/14 regarding a car purchase between a car dealership and a Eugene, Oregon woman. I was to wait to hear from the local woman that she had received the paperwork from CA and then meet with her to finalize it. Aaron specifically told me that I was to verify the buyers ID and witness the woman's signature, but NO notarization was required. I clearly repeated that back to him during our conversation. My notes even repeat those words in capital letters twice!!
At the appointment yesterday, I filled out and attached an Individual Acknowledgement to one of the many docs's she signed. I wrote on it what Aaron wanted it to say: "no notarization required, witness transaction only, and verified ID." I signed it but did NOT stamp it!!
Tonight, Aaron called to say their finance person needs proof I am a valid notary and wants me to place my stamp on a piece of paper and scan/e-mail it to them. I told them I would need to discuss the situation with my SOS and would get back to them tomorrow morning.
Sounds like it was a miscommunication between us. The guy sounds new and was/is difficult to understand.
What would you have done differently??? How would you resolve this issue???
