Other than that, I suspect all jails are different. You're right about traveling lightly. My experience is they barely let you take your journal or pen in! Some jails require an appt, as well, like lawyers. Also, IDs are hard to come by. Hopefully the inmate's family has it. The jail may not have it and even it they did it's unlikely they'd give it to you. The jail also will probably have you leave your ID with them before you go it. You just need to check out all the jail requirements.
Sure, few notaries would want to go to a jail. Last time I went, they stuck me in my own "cell." It was flooded with pieces of bread floating around and I had to deal with the inmate through bars. Still, that's what we do: respond to legal requests for notarizations ... and unless our lives or health are at serious risk, that's what we do ..... |
