this may expedite you getting paid. Remember to add any late fees you can legally add (in accordance to your state laws) and give them a pay by this date...if they don't pay then cc the collection agency you will send this to. No matter how small the payment, its the principal that matters. You did the work, you get paid. If they want to play hardball, then do the same with collecting the monies owed to you.
