"Most notaries are not attorneys, therefore most of us can't give legal opinions about such as issues as libel. "The potential for libel lawsuits, against both NR and the people who post the messages, is very high". Oh really? And you got your Law degree from what University?"
Paralegal certificate, 2 years, University of Colorado. I wasn't giving a legal opinion as relates to a specific incident, only stating what the possibilities are in general based on my training in libel law.
"If you don't lie, there is no grounds whatsoever for libel. That's my legal opinion."
And where is YOUR Law degree from?
Truth is an affirmative defense against an accusation of libel, but you still have to prove it in court. An affirmative defense means you're admitting you broke the law, but these facts you have in your hands will mitigate that; those facts then have to be proven to the court. And that, my friend, is going to cost you money - which is the whole point of avoiding going to court in the first place, isn't it?
