I have my first mortgage signing tonight. The nna website both says that signing agents are not allowed to take settlement funds and that they are allowed to take settlement funds. When I called the lieutenant governor's office the woman said that notaries cannot take funds of more than the $5 per signature. And when I told her about the information I had found on the Utah Government website stating that since 2013 notaries were now able to take settlement checks and Curry them to the title company, she said that was not under the purview of a notary but perhaps under the insurance information.
The bottom line is calling are there any Utah signing agents who can shed light on this? Are we allowed to take the settlement closing checks from the buyers and send it along with the rest of the paperwork? |
