I'd guess that most people simply do not understand that one does not have to sign in a notary's presence in order for notary to complete an ack (assuming the doc is already signed). So Lisa's advice is spot on. Don't rock the boat. Just sign and date in front of a notary to avoid all sorts of misunderstandings down the road.
However, I got the impression from OP that the signer probably already signed and dated earlier (unless the date was preprinted on doc)… ?
In any case, I wouldn't charge another fee for a do-over. You can try to explain to them how stupid vital Records is, but they probably wouldn't understand (or care) how this got so messed up; and like Lisa said, a lot of goodwill may follow. |
