| I do not believe the State of Minnesota allows us to notarize documents using an interpreter. Luckily, one of the notaries in my area is proficient in ASL and we refer all hearing impaired closings and general notary work to her. I have no idea what that interpreter is signing to a borrower. For all we know this might be just a side gig for the interpreter and they might be signing 2.25% for the interest rate rather than 4.75% or answering questions incorrectly that a borrower might be asking. I am not going to chance it and have something come back on me. If I am unable to communicate with a signer directly, I do not feel comfortable notarizing, and obviously the State of Minnesota agrees with me. |
