SignAll is developing automated ASL translation technology where a human interpreter is not needed. The deaf person wears a special high-tech glove with colored fingers that is tracked by a camera and software translates ASL into English text on a chat screen.
The hearing person speaks normally and voice recognition software translates the voice into text on the chat screen. Both parties can communicate in real time by reading the chat screens at an automated ASL translation station.
The pilot program targets government offices, schools, universities and big businesses. Future plans include development of a mobile application and making it available for systems like Siri or Alexa.
