Just upgraded my phone after doing a lot of research. Some phones, like cars, are better than others. As time passes it becomes obvious that you don't want the model that catches fire or has documented flaws. Do you really need the newest model with 3 cameras? What about the long-term cost of your monthly bill?
Being clumsy, I wanted a drop-proof, waterproof phone that would last. The one I chose is new in the box but not the latest model. Bought it unlocked on eBay, then compared prices for service plans. The major carriers sell the newest phones at full price paid in monthly increments. Let's say a $1300 phone costs you $50 a month plus $50 for service. That's a lot.
Instead, consider paying cash for a slightly older model that's proven to be reliable (I paid $200) and shop for service with no contract. I found a very basic plan for $20 a month. An unlocked phone can be used on any network and is upgraded with the usual software updates. My coverage is the same as it was with Verizon at a fraction of the cost. |
