After writing this, I learned that Trump has severely restricted what the FBI is allowed to investigate.
For one thing, they cannot look into the allegations of Michael Avenatti's client, Julie Swetnick. Even though she has provided a sworn affidavit under penalty of perjury that could end her career, Trump doesn't want those allegations to be investigated. Why not?
The FBI will also not be allowed to look into Mark Judge's employment records, a key factor in Dr. Ford's attempt to nail down the timing of her allegations. Again, why not?
Clearly, the fix is in - this FBI "investigation" is going to be a sham. By blocking them from investigating specific allegations, Trump is trying to ensure that they will not be able to develop evidence against Kavanaugh. It's my hope that the FBI can do a better job given his restrictions than he thinks they can do.
And DO NOT underestimate Avennatti - he understands media better than Trump does, and any attempt by Trump to silence him by blocking his client is just going to blow up in his face. Avennatti owned Trump in the Stormy Daniels deal, finally being able to show that she WAS paid by Trump to be silent. This stuff with Julie Swetnick is going to be child's play for him. Be prepared to see Avennatti on TV over the next few days presenting his client, her allegations, and corroborating witnesses. And then asking Trump and the GOP to explain why they were specifically excluded from the FBi investigation.
The GOP has been damaged by these hearings - even Fox News has said that the credibility of Dr. Ford's testimony has been damaging. And while they praised Kavanaugh's anger and belligerence, there is very little in HIS testimony that rings true. "I didn't do it" is not a defense, especially when all the other evidence about your behavior during the time in question says otherwise.
November is coming. Women are angry about this, as are a lot of men like me who don't accept the idea that women and men are not equal because of some BS you read in your Bible. Be very afraid, GOP. |
