I may have handled the situation a little differently, but for $65, I don't think it's reasonable to expect any notary to be standing by less than 2 hours before a scheduled appointment waiting for documents to arrive from you and your client. Most notaries would get on with other appointments - and at that fee, they'd have to have quite a few to stay in business! Then expecting them to forfeit their fee (or a major chunk of it) because they didn't get back to you fast enough (after their schedule was messed up with late documents) is a bit over the top.
The consequences of the delays suffered by the seller shouldn't fall solely on the notary's shoulders. If she had received the documents in a timely manner, it's very likely there wouldn't have been any problem at all. If you want a notary to be at your beck and call all day waiting for docs, you need to pay for multiple time slots - which would be a lot more than the full $65! I don't expect you'll get much sympathy here...
