Wow. I have just the opposite experience. I get most of my clients via my web site. ( do you have a web site?) Although not expliciitly referenced on my site, it is very clear to the visitor that this is not free service. Every prospect does ask how much. But I get very little blow back. No one ever counters. They may decide to find a cheaper notary. ( about 15% of the time)
With hospitals and senior facilities, they all fully understand that that this is not free service. Same with Trust and Estate lawyers. Attorney's are willing to pay for a professiional notary to show up who doesn't smell like booze or smoke, is not on drugs and not wearing torn jeans with a ripped t-shirt. It is a really low bar. But that's the state of our industry.
I never got caught up in the refi boom and just focused on GNW. During COVID, there were countless nervous consumers signing Wills and Trusts in their dining rooms and on their front porches.I was swamped.
I hate the loan signing business. Notaries are at the bottom of the barrel. I have no intention of spending the rest of my life groveling for a $80 refi and begging for an extra $15 print fee. It is demeaning. GNW is highly profitable and you can quickly raise fees to keep up with inflation. My fees are much higher now than 4 years ago. Meanwhile the loan signing business is quickly going down the drain. Many notaries will operate at a loss, "hoping and praying" for a rebound. It is never gonna happen.Notaries are notorious for nor exiting the business during bad times. They stay no matter how little money they earn. I don't get it.
