Yes, we regularly eat Morningstar veggie patties found at most grocers and Beef-o substitute for ground beef from TJ's. I honestly don't remember the last time having ground beef at home. Maybe every 4 months we'll cave and buy an actual hamburger. Then feel nauseous afterwards.
You either get used to it or not. Beef-o sells out at TJ's rather quickly around here. You know crazy Californians...into healthy eating...imagine that!
Personally, I like them both. We'll have the patties with sautéed mushrooms and vegies or anything similar. The Beef-o is great in home-made tacos and enchiladas or with sautéed veggies and mushrooms.
My wife is an extraordinarily good cook. Her dinner concoctions are made up from her imagination and with decades of experience so I don't suffer with flavors, trust me. If she does a taco night, or taco salad, I actually enjoy the beef substitute.
Keep in mind, you're talking to a guy who eats fresh from the garden each morning kale, broccoli and Brussel sprout Leaves.. blended with spinach, coconut water, fresh fruits and berries, chia seed, flax seed, turmeric, and collagen protein powder for breakfast smoothies. With a good blender like a Vitamix these can turn out very tasty.
So veggie meats are routine. We transitioned using ground turkey and still have it on occasion.
We also cheat. We'll grill a steak maybe once every couple of months. I don't go cheap as a result. Our stomachs know when we cheat with beef. I'd been wanting a good ol' fashioned chile dog for months now so finally caved this weekend...with a beer no less. Yeah, don't do that either. Was fun, but froze the remaining dogs for another time. |
