| I love animals. My childhood dog was wonderful with our family, but very protective when guests would arrive, and would sometimes frighten them. I learned from that, to be mindful of people entering a home, and put the guests first. And I appreciate homeowners who do put their guests first, and keep their dogs in separate areas. If I hear a dog barking when I ring the doorbell, I use body language and am polite and direct. I step back away from the door enough to indicate that I am not entering. Then, I say something like, "that's ok, I will just wait here until the dogs are put away. No problem. Take your time. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it." Then I thank them again when entering the home, and when leaving as part of the exit dialoug "nice meeting you, thank you so much, have a great day.." Most often, the homeowners will say something like the cliché "They'll just lick you to death," but continue to say," I completely understand, thanks for saying something,..." |
