That all changed after 9-11. Everyone who boards a plane, for example, should be vetted and checked out. The Real ID has been implemented in FL a few years and no long lines here. All it means is you bring extra verification to renew such as your birth certificate, SS, a passport, proof of residency for example and is shown with a yellow star in the right hand corner of your DL. It's no big deal, everyone pretty much has this down here. I wouldn't want to sit on a plane next to someone undocumented. The chip in the card has a lot of information and hard to duplicate as well. When they run it through the machine a lot of info comes up to law enforcement and such. Some states are refusing to this so then those residents have to have a passport to fly anywhere in the USA. I think MN is one and KY if not mistaken. It's silly these states are not on board. It's going to cost everyone in that state to get a passport if they want to fly. |
