Re: The lenders instructions would not be sufficient, IMO

I agree 100% with what ananotary wrote here and above. (I was also going to quote the statute and point out that nothing mentions the requirement for cause but she beat me to it. Wink)

I would feel uncomfortable sending that info (which in our state includes details from their ID) to a signing service (or anyone else) as a routine part of doing business with them. I might have told them that I'd be happy to provide that info once the receiving party directly sent me a separate written request that included the specific info for that transaction required under our state statute. A generic request isn't sufficient. I would want it to come from someone other than the signing service (i.e. lender or tc), but regardless of who sent it, I'd be legally required to comply with a specific, proper written request. That's why I thought it was a good idea to back out of that assignment. If that's automatically done with every signing, I wouldn't want to be a part of it. [BTW, there's nothing to consult about on this, and no additional fees would be appropriate.]

Having said that, I've worked for RM Signing in the past (years ago) and don't recall any negatives about them. Maybe things have changed, but when I worked for them, I believe most of their business was RMs. Haven't seen many of those in quite some time.
