I think your explanation makes more sense. "Unknown" means just that, and substituting an acronym could be interpreted as changing the name, which we all know would be improper when notarizing.
FWIW, years ago, I notarized some things for an internationally known individual who goes by just one name. He's had it legally changed and that was all that was on his DL. If anyone tried to insert an acronym in front of, or after, his name, I'm pretty sure he'd pitch a fit... |
