This reminded me that when I first started switching to Google Maps, I would have it on along with the Garmin, and listened to instructions from both. That was an interesting comparison. I found Google Maps gave me a little more notice and did a better job of getting me into the correct lane for future turns. Not perfect, but mostly pretty good for me.

I almost always do a look-up on my pc in advance and used to print them out on the back of my printed confirmations. Somewhere along the line, though, I stopped printing either, since it's now all there in my phone.

Anymore, I also input the entire address in the Location field of each appointment in my Google Calendar app. That becomes an active link, so when heading to a new location, I can just pull up the next appointment in my calendar, touch the link and I instantly have turn by turn instructions coming to me verbally. I think that's about as safe (and easy) as you can get when following directions. I do keep the phone within view, too, because i find it helpful to have a visual of where I'm going. Naturally, this could be a challenge for someone who works in an area with spotty cell coverage, seldom an issue for me.

(And FWIW, I record actual odometer readings for each stop in each appointment entry.)
