I agree with you, Steve. From my experience is that they want to not offend, make uncomfortable or ask for that ID and just take their word for it. Newbie LO's are the worst offenders or are friends of the borrowers and afraid to ask, and then put down a wrong name (nickname or shorten version) that they know them by. Most sign that application electronically and probably do not upload that ID, and LO just proceeds. Buyers don't take a misspelling seriously. It's horrible the simplest of acts, yet they screw it up. It all starts with the lender's info, then it goes to title and they use what they get coming in. Signers are just as guilty because they review and sometimes don't speak up when something is misspelled, or a maiden name or married name then divorced and changed. Happens all the time. |
