For a mobile notary who either leaves the documents with the signer (most general notary work) or who promptly ships the documents with a parcel service, it doesn't really make sense for the notary to wait to finish the certificate. But if the notary works for the organization that will receive the document, and the signer visits the office of the organization, the notary will be keeping the document. I don't think finishing the certificate later is a good practice, and it might not be legal in some states, but could be done. In particular, if the signer was in a hurry and left the office within seconds of signing, the notary would have no choice but to finish the certificate outside the presence of the signer. |
