I am adamantly and proudly a liberal, but I rarely discuss abortion. Like all liberals, I am pro choice. However, as a long-time fathers advocate, I think pro choice defenders chronologically misplace when the choice should be exercised. If a woman does not wish to become pregnant, with the resulting entanglements with the --other-- parent, then she should CHOOSE not to have sex. Once she makes the choice, she should be bound by the consequences of that choice, and one of the consequences should be that the father should be involved in any decisions about the fate of his child.
As long as abortion supporters construe "a woman's right to choose" to mean "a woman's right to impose her choice on a father," I don't care how restrictive the law becomes. I just don't care.
I am particularly bemused when abortion supporters rail about imposing something on women, when they will virtually fight to the death any claim that the other parent should have a voice in the matter. |
