"...it requires that a mail-in voter using a DL as ID put the DL number on the ballot envelope."
Actually, the linked article addresses that very thing. It does not require the voter to * only * use their DL #, there are multiple forms of ID that the voter can use, with one being the last 4 of their SS#. The envelop, that must be designed before this requirement is to be used in the next election, is required to be one that, once sealed, the information the voter uses as their ID will be hidden and can only be seen once the envelop is opened when it is to be verified and counted. It is NOT written on the outside of the envelop for anyone to see.
As for the DL having two numbers and someone getting confused, a little honesty if you please. The DL# is CLEARLY marked as the DL# while the other, much longer # begins with "DO" and is much smaller than the DL # which is in the same area as all of the other identifying info, just as it is on every other state issued DL. * Fun fact, your TX DL also has 2 sets of numbers on it as well, just as all other Real ID state DL's do. *
Should anyone "get mixed up" and think their DL # is 20 digits long verses the normal 9 digits long, well then, perhaps it is best that their vote not count, even if they were to be voting for Republicans, wouldn't you say? j/k ... but not by much
