This is the original wording of the Second Amendment, according to Govinfo.com:
"A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."
A scribe who copied it to the final document mistakenly added two commas to bless us forever with this abomination of the English language:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Now, which sentence makes more sense, is actually correct English, and fits in with the language of the rest of the document? Keep in mind that the whole thing was written by James Madison - did he suddenly have a brain fart when he wrote this part? There is no other part of the Constitution or the first 10 amendments that is written this poorly. Madison was no uneducated hack. How did he screw this one sentence up so badly?
