I will have to do a little research, but I believe it was someone, an official, at the Reagan Library who confirmed it during some program/documentary(?) after his condition was made public. If I remember correctly, they were discussing the skill of Reagan and his team to deal with the press, which allowed him to maintain high approval numbers, even when things were not going that well.
One secret weapon they used which very few politicians, if any, have been able to employ with even half the skill since was that they made a point of seeing to it that there was at least one positive story every day coming from the WH Press office. It became so normal, the press, even those that were not fans, never realized just how often they were being used (played, manipulated, etc) lol
And of course, his own personality and communication skills, was always one of his biggest assets. |
