It was never Dominion's intent (or responsibility) to cripple Fox News - they set the high $1Billion+ number as a ceiling, not a floor, and probably always expected to get much less. The evidence was too overwhelming (especially the texts, emails, and recordings) for Fox to take a chance with a jury, so they went for the best deal they could get. I don't think Dominion even cared about an apology.
Next up for Fox is the Smartmatic suit; they're asking for over $2Billion, and they're in a good position because Dominion has already done most of the work for them. They same evidence will carry forward into that case.
I saw a report today that Fox is already aggressively demanding higher carriage fees from the cable systems that carry it - they've got to make up that money somehow, and they'll try to do it out of the pockets of viewers. The question is, will the cable companies go for it? Not all of their customers watch Fox, and those who don't are not going to like paying more for a channel they don't watch. Cable companies are struggling to hold onto customers as it is now. |
