I think this is a "notary hat" issue, determining if we believe they're providing "satisfactory evidence". How they sign has more to do with our "signing agent" (or "closer" or whatever) hat. Then, of course, I 100% agree.
As for the original issue, I like VT_Syrup's comments. But it doesn't hurt for us to try to learn as much as possible about naming conventions in other cultures/nations. I've run into this type of situation often and am usually fine if they can show me something else (preferably government issued) that makes sense to me to explain a middle initial discrepancy. Once in a rare while, though, that doesn't happen and instead I get attitude from someone who has nothing to show me. That's where I draw the line. Most people will at least try, but if they go off on the "the last notary didn't have a problem with this" and they get angry, insulting and/or belligerent, I'm out of there.
