As Long as that "stated capacity" is visible in a format I can believe, all good. In VA, our authority includes "Verification of fact." Not what is being suggested here. Don't have time or inclination to verify an AIF or POA; but when a document signer is absent, I prefer a stand-in with a credible BASIS for signing for the absentee. Same as with gnw. No distinction.
p.s. I fear the erroneous take-away from this informative thread is that of "certifying capacity," in a certificate. Probably a conceptual misunderstanding for the most part (AIF language is in a separate category so far as Capacity is concerned). Were talking IDENTITY here - signing IN THE PLACE OF someone else. While claiming a marital status or corporate office may fly under my radar (as I'm not at that time using my Verification of fact powers), claiming to be able to sign in place of someone else simply won't do. Not on My watch.
