I won't write you a novel. Succinctly,
1) check out your competition
2) hope you have great connections
3) pray, pray, pray only 4 and 5 star companies call you...check these out THOROUGHLY cuz ratings change all the time
4) read this forum, except ignore all the snarkiness and petty banter
5) be very careful who you accept assignments with...check out here first, google is your lifesaver
6) work very hard on a concise, informative profile that makes people want to call you. A business headshot is helpful.
This forum is a wealth of information. You'll have to do a little sifting. There are some heavy hitters on this forum who don't post any more. They've made very helpful posts in the last 10 plus years. One of them is PAW (Paul A. Williamson).
Good luck. This industry is no longer a cake walk. Hope you have smooth feathers.
