Search here and read as much as you can. No better place to get a feel for what you'll face on actual jobs.

Any company that you accept a job for, as soon as possible come on here and search for their name and/or phone number. Signing Central is great but doesn't have everything. If you see a bunch of posts about people not getting paid, call them back and cancel. You can tell them the truth or make something up, whatever, as long as you don't spend your time, your gas, put wear and tear on your car, for nothing. Then in your phone name them "deadbeat" or something so you know next time they call you just to let it go to voice mail.

And don't feel like you should charge less because you're new. If you start a business relationship with a low fee you'll not likely be able to raise it. Do the math as has been suggested and tell the low-ballers that you have to decline because there is no profit for you at $60.

Not doing business with low-ballers will also help ensure you get paid for the jobs you accept. Someone who does not respect what your time and credentials are worth is less likely to care whether they pay you. A company that respects you as a business is more likely to pay you.

Also make sure you know your state's notary laws front and backward. Not just the basics but the oddball things. Type in your state name here in the search and you'll find many threads about things other people in your state have run across and various opinions on how they should be handled. VERY EYE OPENING.

Good luck!
