I'd say it's wrong, big time.
I'd make a big deal of it. As you said, in CA, writing our name and expiration date is not only not required it's not part of our notarial certificates, which as everyone knows, are strictly regulated by state law. Our seals, which are to be legible, already have this information.
I don't recall the exact wording, but I recall something about somebody altering or tampering with a certificate is guilty of a crime in CA. Don't quote me on that one because I didn't look it up, but I know there was something along those lines.
But for sure, what they did is essentially invalidate your certificate, IMO... only because CA is so strict about the format and wording. If they wanted us to write our names and expiration date down, they'd require it of us...but we don't need to because it's already on our seal. |
