I don't know if it works the same for Brother printers as HPs (which I've always used), but I've found there to be a significant difference in refurbished cartridges, which aren't all made the same. I buy ones that have the chip replaced so that the printer thinks it's an OEM cartridge, even though it only costs about 25% of what an original HP cartridge costs. The least expensive cartridges may not have a replacement chip.
