....its an excuse used by a few hiring parties who take advantage of this particular professions financial insecurity and vulnerability.
Persistence, constant connectivity and endless marketing to the thousands of potential hiring parties is the key to running any successful service business.
Over the years I have noticed that many in this profession, are so set in their archaic ways of running their business, that they've literally limited themselves as to how much money they can make thus never having any financial freedom until they free their minds and open themselves up to to learning new business strategies, marketing techniques, etc. And, I'm was one of them.
This is not a job where one sits on their fanny and "hopes" that someone will call them because their picture is cute or they have a "killer" bio on their profile, uh no. It takes work, and lots of it. And of course time...which seems to never be on our side i.e., not enough hours in the day it seems some days.
Advice: Get educated, take a business course/class, get to know your business by doing your homework on the companies that pay, and the ones that literally don't. Also, get socially active on social media where there are unlimited connections as well as potential clients.
Nothing is going to change in this business as far as the continuation of lowered fees. And for some, they've accepted this as the "norm" but I don't.
Any conversation with a hiring party where they say their algorithms tell them these (lowered) fees are now the new norm, is spewing bullshit in your ears! Its their business model to make money and will tell any indep contractor the same thing to sort of make them feel better about accepting the paultry low fees.
