According to a CA DMV web page ( https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/dl/motorvoter ) people who get a driver license by relying on Assembly Bill 60, the one that was intended to make it possible for undocumented immigrants to get a license, will not be registered to vote as part of their DMV transaction. Of course, I don't know if the system really works the way this web page describes it.
Reading stories about this stuff requires the same attention to detail as when a notary checks IDs. The fact that John Smith listed Joe Smith as an alias on the name and signature affidavit doesn't, without proper id, let you notarize him as Joe Smith. The fact that a bunch of CA legislators INTENDED to make it possible for undocumented immigrants to get driver licenses does not mean a person with that type of license is an immigrant, documented or otherwise. The fact that the DMV issued some large number of AB 60 licenses does not necessarily mean those names were sent to the SOS for voter registration unless they opted out. |
