Re: Sorry, but it is political - OMG...

Expeditor asked "Do you have to show a real ID to vote, which would make sense but I'm guessing that's not the case?" I don't know the answer, but I do know there are three possibilities, assuming you didn't register to vote automatically when you got your Real ID:

1. You can register to vote without showing Real ID or other proof of citizenship, and you can vote without showing ID.

2. You have to show Real ID or equivalent documents to register to vote, but once registered, you can vote without showing ID.

3. You have to show Real ID or equivalent documents to register to vote, and you also have to show ID at the polling place when you vote.

Note that having Real ID does not prove you are a citizen; permanent resident aliens and aliens or with several kinds of visas are eligible for Real ID. The kind of driver license / state ID card that proves citizenship is an enhanced driver license / state ID card and is only available in a few states. Enhanced IDs are like Real ID on steroids, you can use them for anything Real ID is good for, plus travel to North American countries by land or water, but not by air.
