Re: When A Signingn Quickly Turns Dangerous: My Story

I was unable to confirm the appointment with my borrower (a single man) but I really didn't give it much thought because it is a holiday weekend and everyone is pretty busy. The appointment was originally set for Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. and because of no docs, it got changed to Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. I left a couple of messages for the borrower, no return call, still didn't think anything crazy."

Holiday weekend - Friday night of holiday weekend postponed to Saturday night of holiday weekend; if you couldn't make contact with signer to confirm, why did you believe someone made contact with him for new appointment Saturday night?

I would not have gone - but in my area I never went without confirmation simply because of the vast rural area I'm in - I need specific confirmation with borrower and specific directions.

Also, this post is a great PSA for concealed carry - here in Florida a gun in the car would have been a handy thing to have - once you hit your car you'd be well within your rights to pull the gun and tell him to back off while dialing 911 - concealed carry laws and "castle doctrine" - cover your home and your car. And yes, you should have been on the phone with 911 - not just talking about it.

Thankfully you're safe - you're very lucky.
