Since no citation was provided, the only reference to the 2012 "Caesar" supposedly being meant to represent Obama was this article below about another production company in NY, however, not the same production company or stage (Central Park). Just for clarification.
From the article: "His [Director Rob Melrose's] Caesar (the suavely confident Bjorn DuPaty) is a tall, charismatic African-American politician; he doesn’t look or sound much like Obama (he more closely recalls Michael Jordan), but the audience is unquestionably going to read him as an Obama stand-in nonetheless ..." http://tinyurl.com/y7jyk42a
That said, this year's play that everyone seems to be going crazy over is not one that I would choose to see (primarily because I prefer the original settings of old plays), however, it is art and is also protected speech. Just as several times when groups such as the Westboro Baptist Church have been discussed in JP, almost everyone who joined in the discussion agreed that they didn't agree with WBC's views or actions however, nearly all, if not all, agreed that they had a right to their free speech, I believe the people involved with this year's play have the same rights. By the same token, the companies who wish to withdraw their support have the very same right to do so and should not be attacked as some sort of "censors" because they have decided that they do not wish their company to be associated with it. It is the production company's responsibility to find funding, not companies responsibility to automatically fund everything.
Just as I think the left is making too much out of every little thing Trump does or says, I think some on the right are falling into the same trap with their outrage over such things as this play. jmo
