"By the way, it's arrogant of you to assume that the patrons are 'stupid' and have never seen Shakespeare's play... Great big assumption on your part."
The "patrons" are not stupid - they know the play and understand it. It's the protestors who focused on a single scene that occurs half-way through the play as if that were the whole point of the play. If they understood Shakespeare and what the play actually represents, they would not be protesting it, so in that respect, they are "stupid".
One of the people who started the protests, Jack Posobiec, is a known right-wing agitator who has promoted conspiracy theories such as Pizzagate and the Seth Rich story and has been able to convince others that this play is a leftist plot. Note that HE didn't rush the stage - he filmed another person doing it. Posobiec is not about to get himself arrested when he has other cannon fodder available.
"Moral equivalency is never justification for anything, but I take your points. Et tu Brute? "
If I remember correctly, in the play Brutus runs himself through with his own sword, held by one of his servants. The message is clear - political violence solves nothing. THAT is the message we should be taking away, not who the lead character happens to looks like. |
