Have you had your soil tested? Your local masters gardeners might do it or will be able to point you in the right direction. Also, when using peat moss try to pre moisten it. It holds an emormous amount of water but when it dries out it can suck the moisture right out of your plants. I used to mix my own, peat, vermiculite and perle light but now I'm lazy and just buy bales ProMix. It's wonderful, has a wetting agent ( dish soap works for diy) and has a starter Fertilizer.
Have fun! If you haven't heard of square foot gardening, check this out, http://www.melbartholomew.com/what-is-square-foot-gardening/. It's perfect for high yield in raised beds. |
