On a sort of related note, I recently found the following article extremely interesting:
http://nautil.us/issue/67/reboot/iron-is-the-new-cholesterol?utm_source=pocket&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pockethits
The premise is that many people are getting too much iron in their diets, as so many foods (like packaged cereals) are fortified with it. Add regular consumption of red meat, high in iron, and it can get excessive. And this isn't something commonly tested for by doctors. Further, not much research has been done on this issue because the solution to excessive iron would be eating less of it vs. taking some kind of medication on a consistent basis, so there's little incentive from Big Pharma to study it. [That last part is my own commentary...]
It's a somewhat long article which takes on one potential issue at a time, so scroll down some if you find yourself reading about a particular health issue that doesn't interest you.
